Re: "Republican Ron Paul offers a different choice and new ideas" (Perspectives, Dec. 28).

U.S. Rep. Ron Paul, R-Texas, is the only candidate running who actually represents the America of our founding fathers. He promotes more individual choice, the right for you to control your life, not the government controlling you and taxing you into penury.

Let's stop the "yes, but" Republicans and the "tax-and-spend" Democrats from overriding the Constitution in the name of "patriotism" or some favored social program. Paul represents a new freedom for all Americans from an overbearing federal government.

That is why I am voting for Ron Paul in the Republican Primary. Thank you.

Why I Support Ron Paul for President

Taxes
First, Ron Paul is the only limited government, lower taxes candidate. He has never voted to increase taxes and desires to cut government spending and taxes needed to support the spending. You cannot increase government (whether it is "infrastructure" as used by the Big Spenders, or transfer payments and subsidies,) and expect to lower taxes.

Free Trade
Ron Paul supports real free trade not more governmental organizations such as NAFTA, GATT, CAFTA, etc. Free trade is simple... we won't tax imports and other countries do not tax our exports.

War and Foriegn Policy
The war in Iraq was sold to us with false information. The area is more dangerous now than when we entered it. We destroyed a regime hated by our direct enemies, the jihadists, and created thousands of new recruits for them. We have no business making "regime changes" and trying to knock down or prop up other governments. We are not and can never be the policemen of the world.

Personal Liberty
The biggest threat to personal liberty is the government. We must limit the ability of the government to collect and store data about citizens' personal matters. Every government agency restricts individual choice. We need to cut back on government and increase personal freedom. The Constitution has a very limited role for the Federal government. Washington has no business being involved with education, abortion, religion, race relations, housing, etc. These are the rights left to the individuals and the states.

Yes, Ron Paul CAN WIN
The so-called "practical" political commentators say that Ron Paul can't win so we should unite behind a "winner" even if we do not support their views. This is the old "unite for unity" trap and is akin to Machiavelli's "the end justifies the means" argument. Let's vote for the best person...Ron Paul for President in 2008!

Rangel wants to enslave Americans!

Rep. Charles Rangel, D-N.Y., called for drafting all 18-26 year olds into the military. The Democrats have not even taken control of Congress and their leaders are calling for enslaving Americans! It shows the mistaken belief that citizens are here to serve the government rather than the other way around.

Homeowner Associations subject to Constitutional Free Speech Guarantees

The New Jersey Superior Court, Appellate Division, ruled Feb. 7 that privately owned homeowner associations may be subject to free speech and other guarantees under the state’s constitution. Committee for a Better Twin Rivers v. Twin Rivers Homeowners’ Association, No. A-4047-03T2.

The ruling is significant because it extends to private entities such as condo associations the same state constitutional mandates that would apply to the actions of government bodies. New Jersey already is on the forefront of such law by allowing free speech rights in private shopping malls.

"In the exercise of fundamental rights, we discern no principled basis for distinguishing between the general public at large and the members of a community association," the court wrote.

A committee of homeowners in the association and three residents of Twin Rivers sued the association in a nine-count complaint. Among their complaints were that the Twin Rivers Homeowners’ Association restricted their display of political signs, denied access or a right of reply in the association’s newsletter, refused to rent the community room in the association at a reasonable fee and weighed voting rights based on property values.

NJ Governor Tries to Ban children from Eating Junk Food

New Jersey decided to prevent schools from selling foods children want to eat by the sale of soda and "junk foods" in its schools as of the start of the 2007 school year. Governor Richard J. Codey said that the state school districts will be required to adopt a comprehensive statewide policy banning the sugary products. This will cost the districts more money and divert resources from the classroom to the extra administrators.

The policy, instituted through administrative fiat, rather than by the state's elected officails, will cover food items sold in vending machines, cafeteria, a la carte lines, snack bars, school stores, fundraisers and the reimbursable After School Snack Program.

No more selling candy door-to-door for fundraisers. Instead children will probably be selling potatoes and carrots for fundraisers. "Schools are where children spend most of their time," Codey said in a statement. "Instead of encouraging bad eating habits and bad health with the easy accessibility of candy and soda, schools must be a place where we teach good nutrition and lay the foundation for good eating habits." By Sept. 1, 2006, school districts will have to adopt a school nutrition policy and by Sept. 1, 2007, the policies will have to match the Model School Nutrition Policy as written in the amended Nutrition Rule, in a continuation of a long ist of unfunded state mandates imposed upon school districts.

An Internet service provider must hand over documents that disclose the identity of a person who sent an allegedly libelous e-mail about an executive director to the company's board, a Manhattan judge has ruled, finding that the First Amendment does not preclude discovery. The Public Relations Society of America and its director initiated an action against Road Runner High Speed Online, seeking all documents concerning the e-mail and the user of the originating Internet address. US Supreme Court Strikes Down Restrictions on Wine Sales

The US Supreme Court determined that state laws banning mail order wine purchases from out of state suppliers while permitting local sellers to sell wine by in-state wineries is Unconstitutional. If a state permits direct sales from the winery to the customer, then it must permit the sales over the internet and from other wineries located in other states. This will give consumers more choice and price competition unless states try to flex their taxing and regulating authority banning all direct retail sales. For more information click here
